“The only way to be happy is to love, to love self-denyingly,

to love everybody and everything;

to throw out from oneself on all sides, like a spider,

an adhesive web of love to catch in it all that comes:

an old woman, a child, a peasant, or a policeman.”

Leo Tolstoy (1828 – 1910), the author of such classics as

War and Peace and Anna Karenina

  1. As soon as you give up struggling/resisting, in comes peace. One cannot force oneself to love, and there are certainly no pre-conditions necessary to “happiness”. Equanimity is natural and lasting.

  2. Great point! We have to stop reacting, no doubt at all.
    Once we get ascended as loving creatures, loving unconditionally like the sun loves, we will probably realize what Leo Tolstoy sincerely shares with us.
